Welcome to Morris Area Schools

On behalf of our students, staff, and School Board, I would like to welcome you to our web site.  It is our hope that you are able to find helpful information here – if you do not find what you are looking for or need more information, feel free to contact a staff member in any of our offices.

Strategic planning is a process, not an event, and is something we have invested time and energy in.  During the 2010-2011 school year, the Morris Area School Board approved a revised Mission and Vision for our district as well as approving a set of Core Values.  Our Mission is quite simple – to educate and prepare all students for a successful tomorrow though academics, activities, arts, and attitude – this is the core purpose of the district.  Our Vision is straightforward – we are working hard to become the finest school district in West Central Minnesota, which is based on academic opportunities for students, student involvement in activities, Tiger Pride, a sense of lifelong learning, and support from all members of our community.  Finally, we have eight Core Values that were selected by our staff.  They include teamwork, integrity and honesty, safe/clean/secure school environment, believing every student can learn, respect, positive attitude, accountability, and communication.  Our Mission, Vision, and Core Values will continue to serve an important part of what we do and how we do it…our roadmap, if you will.

Despite challenges, our School Board has managed resources with careful consideration, without excessiveness, and with balance between the children we serve and taxpayers.  Our district continues to be responsive to increased accountability by embracing the responsibility we have, by advancing strategies to assess how well our students are learning, and by being proactive in getting students the help they might need.  Children learn best when schools form meaningful partnerships with parents and through promoting connections to the wider community.  A great deal of our success is a result of the commitment and teamwork of our parents, staff, community members, administrators, and most importantly, our students.  We are proud of what we have accomplished, but we continue to strive to meet the increasing expectations that others have for us.
Thank you for your interest in the Morris Area School District.  We are looking forward to another great year for our students, parents, staff, and communities.  If you have questions or want to share your ideas, please do not hesitate to contact me at 589-4840 or smonson@morris.k12.mn.us, or come by my office.

Yours in education,

Scott J. Monson
